Cats in Manila

Yep there's no need for us to go to London or New York or Australia to watch Cats because the feline creatures are purring in the city!

Although back in April I was hearing about it and saw the billboard in South Super Highway, Donna asked if we can watched Cats so without any hesitation I agreed and purchased the tickets.

Last night, August 13, it was the night of the show (well one of the last few nights until they purr bye-bye). We arrived at a nick of time in CCP but because it started right on time, we had to wait for 17 minutes before we entered the theater. Upon watching the show.... one word to describe Cats... WORLD CLASS! Our ticket's really worth it!

The cast has a different level of theatrical competence. They're such good dancers and they have powerful voice and the thing is, they can do it all at the same time! Wow! Even if we're seated at the balcony, I truly appreciated it because we got to see the entire stage and its cool settings.

I love Old Deuteronomy, the old fluffy cat. He's truly respected in the Jellicle tribe. Everybody listens to him and he's like their big daddy in the community.

Then Leah Salonga, as Grizabella the former glamour cat, sang a few songs but she was really good! I think as she aged, her voice got more solid. It is as if there's already wisdom coming out from her singing voice.

During the intermission, I got to buy my programme (it's a must for me if I watch a play or a musical) and went around.

Cool there was a quartet! (Best effort from my phone camera)

People were taking pictures in front of the poster and the cast was even going around the crowd during the intermission. Oooh and they even had a quartet! Neat right!

During the second half of the show, 2 songs got stuck in my head:
  1. Memories (reprise version) - It was sang by Grizabella and I got the goosebumps all over the place. Because of Leah Salonga's solid singing performance, I got to understand and appreciate the lyrics of the song. Whoa galing!
  2. Mr. Mistoffeelees - It was sang by Rum Tum Tugger. Donna and I call him the "hot cat" because of his sexy moves in the stage and his personality catches the attention of the female cats. It's very upbeat and had a retro touch, I couldn't help but clap my hands and move my head sidewards. It's such a happy song, for something that describes about a black cat that does magic. It has become my favorite song, I immediately downloaded it! Haha!
So that concludes my Cats experience. Something that I will truly treasure in my musical viewing experience.
