It's been a while since I read poems, written by my favorite poets: Emily Dickinson (oohh 7th grade!), Walt Whitman (aahhh his famous "Oh Captain My Captain", which I recited back then in Grade School at Rhetorics Club and it was actually in the movie "Dead Poets Society"), Ernest Hemingway (not the depressing ones), William Shakespeare (although I only love The Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing & The Merchant of Venice), Maya Angelou (oohh girl power!), Pablo Neruda (ooohh I can still recall back in HS, when Mrs. Eala played Pablo Neruda's CD and Andy Garcia was reciting one of Neruda's love poems... aahh sexy!!) and of course, Jose Rizal and Francisco Balagtas!! Seriously, these Pinoy rev-lit pioneers rocked!! If it weren't for Jose Rizal, Pinoys wouldn't know how to exclaim farewell in a patriotic and "Filipinos are worth dying for" way. Just look at our unsung heroes, like the soldiers who fought in Basilan (my dad was telling me about what he watched last Saturday at Wowowee and the soldier's families were there & narrating the stories of their loved ones and how they died, for the country... the old man couldn't help but whimper and sob... too bad I didn't see that.. Hahaha!), in the midst of their anonymity & their battles in the fields, they died and bid farewell with so much pride. And if it weren't for Francisco Balagtas, I wouldn't be as makata as always to my fabulous friends... Hahahaha!! Like there's this one time, back in 2004, we were conducting a job evaluation at a client's office and I concluded the session by saying "at dito na po nagtatapos ang ating job evaluation..." In fairynezz, that was makata!! Hahahahaha!!
As I was in my nocturnal state, trying to fall asleep (and wake up at 5am), I apparently found this poem about someone who has expressed his or her love to someone else. Funny, while I was reading this poem, the song my Goo Goo Dolls entitled "Before It's Too Late" (Transformers OST) was being played at our iTunes. Talk about the ideal perfect of "mumomoment": MONUMOMENT = CHEESY SONG+LOVE POEM. Haha! Read along peeps!!
Baby they have nothing on us,
so let our story be told.
like forever had no end.
the end is far from now.
is that all Hollywood's got?
(gladzalwayshappy in her serious/lover-of-lit/semi-cheesy mode) The poem actually reminded me of the late senator Raul Manglapus's rhetorical speech entitled "The World is But a Stage", wherein we are the actors in this movie called LIFE and God is the director. In this poem, the lovers are the main characters of this movie about their love story and maybe God does play a major part as the director: setting fate and destiny of being together. Hhhaaaayyy ang soooooweeeeetttttt!!!
SHHYYEEETTTTT!!!
(gladzalwayshappy in her cynical mode) WTF ahhhhh!! Ano buhhhhzzzz!!! The poem may be sweet but it's too effin corneeee ahhh!! Ewan ko lang noh!! I was thinking, maybe this was composed by some love-struck/uber sensitive guy (who can be the quiet type, scribbling notes during homeroom class), who's so madly in-love with her oh-so-ms.Popular gurlfreynd.... Hmmm looks like I saw this in some teeny bopper flick... Haysuzzzz man!!
Oh yeah, and if in case someone writes a poem like this, someone like "Barney the purple dinosaur" will write and recite this poem, I swear ibabato ko itowww sa mukha niya!! Hahahahaha i'm sorreeehhh I sound so mean.
(okay sige let's sound objective and mature... this entry has to conclude) In the end, it's all about expression of one's feelings to someone or something, through different literary mediums, heck prose and poetry has topped the charts. Hehe! It's up to us on how we react:
- Get mushy and saying "aawwwwww" for 5 minutes; or
- Puke all over the place and shriek "ang corneeeeh ahh!!"; or
- Get teary-eyed and go through introspection... in other words, enjoying silence; or
- Keep wondering what he or she means, beneath his or her vauge words... I actually know someone who's writes vague poems at some blog, I couldn't help but wonder the definitions of the writer's phrases: whether it may be self-tribulation ala QLC (in other words the writer has issues), man-ego or celebrating friendship w/ fellow dudes).
Well, maybe someday, I'll try to write some poem... yung tipong maririnig ako kapag binabasa niluuhhh... Hehehehehe!!

Haha funny you being in your usual pseudo-cynical mode! Hehe. For some reason I prefer poems that don't rhyme and have lots of words that confuse the tongue. :)
Ito favorite ko, by e.e. cummings (sorry mahaba! haha):
somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond any experience, your eyes have their silence: in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me, or which i cannot touch because they are too near
your slightest look easily will unclose me though i have closed myself as fingers, you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens (touching skilfully, mysteriously) her first rose
or if your wish be to close me,i and my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly, as when the heart of this flower imagines the snow carefully everywhere descending;
nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals the power of your intense fragility: whose texture compels me with the color of its countries, rendering death and forever with each breathing
(i do not know what it is about you that closes and opens; only something in me understands the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses) nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands
aaahhhh i love this poem!! it's not too mushy but it's actually kilig... talk about ultimate passion for someone you care (ok cynic mode - did i actually say these things?? hehehe!)
