Talk about an Epic Match! Grabe! After 4 hours and 48 minutes Rafael Nadal won the Wimbledon Open 2008! He's the new King of Grass. Oh yeah, did I mention that the duration of the match was 4 hours and 48 minutes? Take note, this was excluding the two rain delays. I watched this nerve-wracking and highly-intense game last night and it ended at around 3:00am! Talk about lamay-galore! Monty, my HS tennis varsity teammate who's currently residing in Spain, texted and raved about Rafa's victory. She said she'll order a video of this game in the near future. She told me that this will be a big celebration in Spain. I bet and I can imagine the festive welcome of the grass hero. In fairness to Federer (who by the way has ruled Wimbledon 5 times in a row), he really played great tennis. He also deserved to win but Rafa put his 200% of his best in the game. This lefty showed powerful strokes and jaw-dropping cross courts passing shots and drop shots. When he served, it was like there was no tomorrow. Even if Federer had 25 aces as against 6 aces that Nadal did, his aces were cannon balls. At least something to and exciting has come in the world of Tennis. The rivalry of Roger and Rafa will be a looking forward moment in the next Grand Slam tournaments. Their rivalry will be included in the roster of the legendary tennis rivalries of the greatest players in the world:
- Bjorn Borg & Jimmy Connors (btw their game was shown last night, 5th set was at 10-12 or something)
- Ivan Lendl & John McEnroe - McEnroe's incessant arguments with the chair umpires
- Boris Becker and Stefan Edberg - Era of the 80's, in their ultra-micro shorts
- Andre Agassi & Pete Sampras - Aahhh I love!! Era of the 90's and back then I'd always look forward to watch their matches, whether Grand Slam or ATP tours.
I can't wait for the US Open 2008!

may replay pa naman ata eh... =) there's one just this afternoon and i bet tonight meron yan...
I couldn't have stayed up even if I wanted to. Was just so pooped. Plus those pesky rain delays weren't helping!
I'm happy for Rafa (tight eh, no?) and was rooting for him, but I felt just a little bad for Federer--he could've made history. But ahh, at least tennis has gotten a little less predictable.:)
lakas nilang dalawa.
@tish - well rain or shine and despite the 7-hour behind timezone i really stayed up late just to watch the match. i really wanted rafa (ah tlgang close itoww!! haha!) to win. as for roger, i guess he has made history already in the sport. i think he has the same records as pete sampras and andre agassi. i have to agree with you that tennis has gotten a little less predictable and something to look forward to at the same time.
@lei - mismo!
